Healdsburg is a magical place where the confluence of climate, soil
and geography provide ideal conditions for local farmers to grow
food through all seasons and for local vineyards to produce the grapes
that become world class wines. Healdsburg restaurants bring
them together to create a unique dining experience.

This Month in the Vineyard September is harvest time. Plump bunches of green and purple grapes are hanging from the vines. Wine makers are testing the sugar content of the grapes to determine the ideal time to pick the grapes. Winemakers look for brix (sugar content), color and the mouth feel of the juice. This year, harvest has already started. Winemakers predict a relatively short harvest with a shorter than usual ripening period. As the harvest starts in earnest, the valley will be filled with the heady smell of the crush. Wine tasting continues with many of our local wineries celebrating this year's harvest and the release of wines made from prior years' harvest.
September weather has traditionally be very similar to August's with warm days, cool nights and no rainfall. The average daily temperature range is incredible with an average of 50 degree lows to 85 degree highs. Days start becoming noticeably shorter and, as harvest wraps up, it is clearly autumn.
It’s a great month to visit some of Healdsburg’s many wineries.
